Wet vs. Dry Aircraft Rental Rates
Wet vs. Dry Aircraft Rental RatesWet vs. Dry Aircraft Rental RatesWhen it comes to aircraft rental satzs, fixed based operators (FBOs) and flight schools typically rent aircraft either wet or dry. What in the world do wet and dry have to do with rental rates? Heres the scoop Wet Rental Rate A wet rental raterefers to the cost of aircraft rentalplus the cost offuel and oil used during the flight. Each fixed based operator or flight school will have a different policy, but at some FBOs, a wet rental rate means that the line service staff will ensure the fuel tanks are filled up with exactly the amount of fuel requested by the pilot. (Sometimes the pilot will request a half-tank of gas to keep weight down to be able to bring mora luggage or improve climb performance.) Some FBOs will fill up the tanks of each of their aircraft so that the next customer show up to a full tank of fuel. To be simple, the wet rental rate just means that a fixed fuel rate is already factored into the cost of the rental. Remember that aircraft rental is a service and not taxable, but fuel and oil is a taxable commodity so that the total bill will reflect the added tax on fuel and/or oil. Established FBOs and flight training organizationsoften utilize a wet rate to make things easier for everyone involved. Its easier for the flight school personnel to keep track of the fuel in their fleet of aircraft when theyre the ones personally filling up the fuel tanks and running the fuel trucks. If a pilot needs to get fuel while on a cross-country flight for an aircraft rented on a wet rate, he or she would typically pay for fuel out of pocket and then be reimbursed by the FBO or flight school upon return. Many FBOs also include a gas card with the aircraft rental, with the stipulation that the pilot fills up at a certain airport or FBO that offers a particular rate or even incentives or rewards. Dry Rental Rate In contrast, adry rental rate does not include the cost of fuel or oil in the rental rate. A pilot renting an airplane at a dry rate will pay for fuel and oil himself, as needed, separately from the aircraft rental rate. The advantage to renting at a dry rate is that fuel-efficient pilots may end up paying less or fuel than other pilots who dont use fuel savings techniques like leaning the mixture aggressively. A dry rate encourages proper fuel management and the leaning of the mixture control to save fuel, which can also save on maintenance-related issues. And with a dry rate, the pilot can often fill up at a cheaper rate at a different airport or fixed base operation if he wanted to save even more money. One of the disadvantages of a dry rate can be showing up to an empty airplane or having to take the extra time to refuel at the self-serve pumps before returning the airplane. Flight schools and flight clubs often use a dry rate for aircraft that frequently fill up away from the home airport. It encourages the operators to save fuel. In comparison, it costs the FBO less, in the long run, to do it this way, because, with a wet rate, pilots often get fuel based on convenience instead of price, leaving the FBO to foot the bill for costly fuel reimbursements. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of rental rates. Pilots who understand what each type of rental rate means will be able to plan to ensure theyre getting the most value for their money. There are other things to consider such asvariable costsandfixed costs.

How to Know When You Should Be Paid for an Internship
How to Know When You Should Be Paid for an InternshipHow to Know When You Should Be Paid for an InternshipInternships have become a key way for individuals to develop career skills and learn about different occupations and industries. Whether for new graduates or professionals looking for a career change, in eigener sacheships are now recognized as a important career development tool. As a greater importance is placed on the internship and more people embrace them, including high school students, the number of organizations offering these opportunities has increased. If you are a job seeker searching for an internship, you should check and see that youre properly compensated for the work. The U.S. Supreme Court has set guidelines for when internships should be unpaid and paid. These guidelines are intended to help interns avoid working for free. If your internship meets the all of the criteria below, then it can be unpaid. Otherwise, you should be compensated for your time.A basic und erstanding of the law can be a great asset as you enter into discussions about a potential internship. If an internship doesnt meet these criteria then you should be paid at least the tiefpunkt wage in your area. Housing, food and commuting stipends cannot take the place of this wage. Here are thecriteria for unpaid internships, as decided by the Supreme Court1. The internship, even though it includes actual operation of the facilities of the employer, is similar totraining which would be given in an educational environment. If youre going to a company and receiving training on par with what youd receive in a classroom, then a wage is not required. If youre interning with a software company, and you spend your time with software engineers that train you and providing hands on feedback, then the internship can go unpaid.2. The internship experience is for the benefit of the intern. Here the distinction is that the internship benefits you. If you receive training and experiences that you can take away from the internship, then it benefits you. If your internship is set up to benefit the company and its revenue in any way, then you need to be paid.3. The intern does not displace regular employees, but works under close supervision of existing staff.Your internship should have no impact on another workers job security. If an employee loses his or her job because of the work youre doing during as an intern, then you should be paid for your work. If the tasks you are performing were performed by a paid employee in the past, you should be paid.4. The employer that provides the training derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the internand on occasion its operations may actually be impeded.Just as No. 2 suggests, if your internship only benefits you and not the employer, then its OK for you to not receive wages for your work. However, if youre working for a company and impacting its revenue and business, then you should be paid for your time at the company. 5. The intern is not necessarily entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship.Traditionally an internship is a training exercise that ends at a predetermined time. However, the purpose of internships has changed. Some employers approach the internship as a way to test out possible employees and determine their fit for the company. If you enter an internship under the impression that after the predetermined time you will be given a job, then you need to be paid.6. The employer and the intern understand that the intern is not entitled to wages for the time spent in theinternship.Whatever legal arrangement the employer sets entering the internship is what you should expect. If you are told you will be paid, the employer must pay you. Although you might not want to make trouble with your employer, you want to protect your interests and not work for free.If youre thinking of using an internship to move ahead in your career, talk with your employer and make sure that you are both on the saatkorn page in terms of salary. The majority of employers hire interns to contribute to the company in some capacity, however, some businesses will offer unpaid internships to benefit the community. If you are unsure where your internship lies, review the above criteria.

How caring for your feet affects your body and workplace health
How caring for yur feet affects your body and workplace healthHow caring for your feet affects your body and workplace healthIts important to put your best foot forward right? In order to do that, lets take a closer look at our actual feet.1. A firm foundationAny house thats constructed starts with the foundation. And the foundation of an organization or company is the mission statement the crux of what it does. In the saatkorn way, your feet are the base for your entire body and hold a lot of weight (pun intended). Your feet are the first to step out in any direction, and therefore, movement is a strong characteristic of strong feet.In 1017 AD, Chinese doctor Wang Wei documented the importance of the feet in treating imbalances and disease. He often leided that the feet were the most sensitive part of the body and contained great energizing areas. Although a form of foot therapy was used in Central Europe during the fourteenth through sixteenth centuries, the knowledge of Chinese e nergy medicine and acupuncture were not recognized by the West until 1883, when Dutch doctor Ten Tyne discovered a scientific basis for reflexology.According to studies in reflexology and acupuncture, Chi needs to flow throughout every part of the body. Therefore, your feet and toes must be kept healthy, so they can move with strength and flexibility. This allows the bodys structural foundation to be strong and stable. For better or worse, lifestyles have changed since the early 1900s. Many of our six-hundred-plus muscles are now underused or unemployed. We must get all of our muscles back to work however, good health is more than possessing an active, strong, flexible, and balanced body. It also involves actively gathering information to help us make healthy choices on a holistic level.Instead of thinking of the feet as just extremities, we would all do well to begin viewing them as both an integral and foundational part of our overall health. Similarly, when problems arise in an or ganization, we often need to go back to the basics and see where issues may be growing from the roots and affecting the entire structure.2. CirculationJust as communication is key to keeping an organization healthful and full of life, feet provide a key part of circulation (or communication) for the body. When feet and toes are healthy, they move with strength and flexibility, allowing the bodys structural formation to be strong and stable.Toes actually act as our second heart. If we wear shoes that bind our feet and minimize toe movement, our second heart will not be able to function well. Anybody remember the 80s trend of sporting tennis shoes with pantyhose and power suits? There might have actually been a deeper reason for that.A pointed-toe shoe may be in fashion and fine to wear in moderation. At the end of the day, whats more important fashion or good health? Therefore, considering what types of shoes we wear on a daily basis is a practical decision that can affect our overa ll health, in and out of the workplace.Feet are also a very important source of blood circulation. With the force of gravity, the process of getting blood circulated to the feet is easy, but how is the body able to circulate blood against gravity from your feet back up to your heart? The answer is the movement of your toes You can feel muscles of your feet, calves, thighs, and pelvis when your toes move, lifting up and down and spreading wide. You might not be a twinkle toes pro, but keeping your toes moving regularly is essential for heart health.3. Proper placement and postureEvery employee provides a skill set to an organization and eventually finds the best fit within its overall function. In much the same way, proper posture, beginning with the placement of feet, is vital to overall health. The position of your feet resting under your body whether standing or sitting is actually very important for alignment. When standing still, your feet should be facing forward, firmly planted , with your body weight evenly distributed. Think of your body as standing or sitting tall versus slumping or sinking down in a chair. When walking, the feet are at their best when instead of a typical heel-to-toe motion, one places the ball of the foot down first, then rolls back to the heel. Also, remember to keep feet pointing forward, as opposed to turning outward or inward.Interestingly, our posture can affect not only how we feel but even how we think. If our alignment is off, we arent getting the messages coming through our bodies and blood, moving through our brains for optimum creativity and problem-solving. From the feet up to the head, proper posture is imperative. The tech neck is something almost everyone suffers from today. Keeping the head up when reading and scrolling through social media feeds can alleviate pressure on muscles. When focusing on your computer screen at work, the computer screen should be level with your line of vision to reduce neck stress. In additi on to promoting an aura of confidence, good posture also contributes to a positive mental attitude. And who doesnt need a little help with that on a long workday? So what can you do to improve your foot health and in turn, better your workplace health?Get up and move dont sit for extended periods of time. Walk away from your desk once an hour.Uncross your legs for better circulation. Ladies, think duchess slant. Besides having an aesthetically pleasing effect by making limbs look elongated, its also heart smart for circulation.Wiggle your toes and stretch your legs throughout the day to increase circulation.Consider swapping out high heels for sensible shoes for at least part of the day.Utilize a standing desk or elevate your computer screen to a proper level for your eyes and neck. The above steps are small changes that produce larger results. Proper alignment, from head to toe, is like an email address - if one letter is off, the entire message is compromised.Being aware of your b ody and its movements on a daily basis, and making a few adjustments now, can help to minimize health issues down the road and optimize workplace well-beingAlice Ann Dailey, M.S., began her career as an elementary school classroom music and klavier teacher. Her teaching career transitioned into physical fitness, and she became the first Pilates teacher in Dallas, Texas. A written contract allows each festivitt to clearly define all of the terms and conditions that they wish to include in the agreement to help prevent future misunderstandings.Written agreements can also act as proof of what welches decided between the parties at the time the final agreement welches made in case any disputes arise in the future. What does Jurisdiction mean?A jurisdiction is a territory with boundaries, like a state, province, or country that has its own laws. For example, California is a jurisdiction in the United States, Ontario is a jurisdiction in Canada, and Scotland is a jurisdic tion in the United Kingdom. What is the Governing Law?In a legal document, the governing law of the document refers to the laws that control what the parties are trying to do with the legal document. Typically, these are the laws of the jurisdiction where the property is located or the actions of the parties will take place. For example, if you live in Texas, but are leasing a property in California, the governing law of your Residential Lease would be that of the state of California. In some circumstances, it may be necessary to choose between several jurisdictions. In states or provinces where legislation is similar, the jurisdiction may elend make a difference, but in some circumstances, there may be advantages to choosing one jurisdiction over another. If you arent sure of how the law can best be applied in your circumstance or need specific advice, then you should contact a local lawyer. What does Joint and Several Liability mean?Joint liability means that all parties involved ar e equally responsible for the obligations of a loan, debt, or other liability.Being severally liable means that if one of the parties is unable to pay their portion of a debt, then the other parties in the agreement are responsible for their own portions as well as the unpaid portion. Being both joint and severally liable at the same time means that all parties involved are equally responsible for the obligation of the contract (such as a loan), and that any one of them could be individually responsible for the entire obligation. For example, if three people were to enter into a Loan Agreement as borrowers with joint and several liability, they would all be equally responsible for paying off the whole debt. If one of the three parties was unable to pay their share, the other two parties would become responsible for paying the entire balance. What does time is of the essence mean? When a legal document states that time is of the essence, it means that any deadlines specified within the contract must be strictly followed. Failure to meet any specific deadline would result in a breach and may be grounds for canceling the contract altogether. When no deadlines are specified in a legal contract, the parties are expected to act in a reasonable time. In legal terms, reasonable time means what someone would generally consider to be a realistic and practical timeframe under the circumstances described in the contract. Why should I use mediation or arbitration instead of going to court?Mediation and arbitration can be good options when the parties involved have a pre-existing relationship and wish to maintain that relationship despite having a dispute. Both mediation and arbitration are focused on finding a mutually agreeable solution to a problem and are generally less expensive and less time consuming than going to court. Do legal documents have to be drafted by a lawyer? There is no legal requirement for a document to be drafted by a lawyer, and individuals are free to dr aft their own documents if they wish to. If you are unsure about printing requirements, you should contact the local records office or an attorney licensed in the jurisdiction where you will register your document for any specific requirements. What does enure mean?Enure (or inure) means to take effect and serve to the use, benefit, or advantage of a person. Enure is commonly seen in formal legal language, though inure is more commonly seen in conversation.A contract that states that something will inure to the benefit of Bill Smith means that Bill Smith will receive the benefit of that thing. For example, in a Residential Lease, if a clause says This Lease inures to the benefit of the respective heirs, executors, and assigns of each party, that means that if the owner of the rental property were to pass away, the person who is assigned the lease would be entitled to receive rental payments. The benefit of receiving rental payments would inure to the person who inherits the pr operty. Witnessing a DocumentAre faxed and scanned copies of signed documents legal? Many of our documents can be executed in counterparts and this will often be included as a clause in the agreement. This means that each party can sign a different copy of the document but both signature pages would be put together with one version of the contract. If the contract states that facsimile (faxed, scanned, or emailed) signatures are acceptable, then you could fax the contract and signatures to the other party. Where there is no provision in the document authorizing facsimile signatures then you should contact an attorney in your jurisdiction to determine the laws affecting facsimile signatures and your specific document. What is a Notary Public?A Notary Public is a state-appointed official who is authorized to authenticate certain legal documents, such as declarations, acknowledgments, deeds, mortgages, and other contracts. Swearing or signing in front of a Notary Public is better eviden ce that the document or contract was signed by that person. Who can be a witness to a legal document?Generally the person you choose to witness a document should have no financial or other interest in an agreement. A neutral third party is the best choice. A neutral third party is someone who is not related to either party and who does not benefit from the contract. Ideally a witness will observe the relevant party or parties signing the document and sign the document as proof that they witnessed the parties signing. The witness is not usually required to know or understand all of the contents of the document. Depending on your jurisdiction, some documents, such as a Last Will and Testament, have clearly regulated requirements regarding the number of witnesses and the nature of the relationship between the parties and the witness. Some jurisdictions disallow witnesses that are mentioned in your Last Will and Testament, either as a beneficiary or an executor/executrix. In many cases, if your document has specific requirements for execution, LawDepot will help to guide you through the process. You should contact a local lawyer or review local statutes if you have any questions about how to execute your document.Do I need a notary or a witness for my legal document? Most documents and contracts dont require a witness for them to be legally valid. However, some documents, such as a Last Will and Testament, can have clearly regulated requirements pertaining to witnesses. Additionally, many banks and other institutions have their own policies about signing requirements and may refuse to accept documents that are not notarized, regardless of a legal requirement. If you want to avoid bureaucratic hold-ups, it may be a good idea to take your document to a Notary Public or have it witnessed. You may also want to contact the institution, branch, or registry where your document will be used to determine what they require.Executing a Legal DocumentWhat does it mean to execu te a document? When a person executes a document, he or she signs it with the proper formalities. For example, if there is a legal requirement that the signature on the document be witnessed, the parties execute the document by signing it in the presence of the required number of witnesses. What is the difference between an effective date and an execution date? The execution date is the date that the party signs the document. The effective date is the date that the benefits and duties in the agreement begin, and can be a specified date other than the date the agreement was signed. If no other date is specified, the contract is effective on the execution (signing) date. How do I sign a legal document as a company? If you see Per _______________ (Seal) in your contract, an officer of the company would sign in the space provided and then affix the companys corporate seal. How do I sign a legal document? You should sign your legal document using the same signature that you have used for banking or identification. It is strongly recommended that you sign using a pen, in a color that is different than the text in the document itself. For example, if your document was printed using black ink, sign your signature in blue ink to reinforce the validity of your contract. Where should I sign a legal document? Most legal documents have a page at the end of the terms and clauses that includes a space for each partys signature. This is referred to as the signing page. Where should I initial a legal document? If your legal document is made up of multiple pages, like a Last Will and Testament or Residential Lease Agreement, initialing each page can help to show that all of the terms within the document were read and accepted. It is also best practice to initial next to any handwritten changes or updates within your legal document or contract.Serving a DocumentWhat does serving a document mean?To serve a document means to formally deliver a document from one party to another in a manner that is legally acceptable. This may be accomplished in many ways including delivery in person, delivery by registered mail, delivery by process server, or, for more serious matters, delivery via a sheriff or bailiff. The person to whom a document is delivered may attempt to avoid or deny delivery of a document. It is prudent to use some method of verification of delivery. What is proof of service?Proof of service is evidence that can be introduced into court to verify that the party did in fact receive a copy of a document. Anytime a process server or court official is used to deliver a notice to a party, it is advisable that you request proof of service. If I deliver a document myself, how do I prove that it was received? If you deliver a document in person, you should ensure that an objective third party (a person who is unrelated to you and has no interest in the matter) witnesses the event, just in case the other party later tries to deny having received the document. Please note that some documents must be delivered or served by an objective third party. In some jurisdictions, it may be required that service is performed by a process server, sheriff, or bailiff for certain documents. If you think you might end up in court, you should make sure that you know the local rules required to serve your document. Can I serve a document by certified mail or registered mail? It depends on the document and if there are local rules that require a certain method of serving the document. Also, if the other party refuses to pick it up, then they may not be viewed as having received it. Certified or registered mail will usually work when serving a corporation if it is sent to the registered office of the corporation. Be sure to check your local rules for any requirements that may affect your jurisdiction or your document.

Should You Start a Career in Recruiting
Should You Start a Career in Recruiting Most recruiting professionals seem to have fallen into their career by chance, luck, or fate. You dont often (if ever) hear kids saying they want to grow up and be a recruiter. Recruiting also isnt typically the first thing on the tip of your tongue when youre thinking about a new career path. So where do recruiters come from? How are they made? Are some people just born to be recruiters? Theres no doubt that recruiters are passionate about what they do. They love tracking down great talent and making placements. The satisfaction of a good match keeps them going. You have to be in tune with the industry in order to survive in it. And maybe thats not something you can learn or be taught. Its possible that some people are just innately predisposed to be recruiters in the same way that some individuals are born to be natural leaders. So if youre thinking about s tarting a career in recruiting, ask yourself if you already have the following traits or if a friend of yours is thinking about getting into the industry, ask them if they have these traits that maybe you take for granted in yourselfInvested in Success To be successful in recruiting, you dont have to be some kind of megalomaniac or be hell-bent on success, whatever that means. However, you do have to care very deeply about professional advancement and peoples careers. You have to be invested in candidates and companies, which means caring about job satisfaction, personal issues, and career advancement. This translates into your own work as well recruiters have to always be expanding their knowledge-base and connections. Recruiters have to believe that jobs, work, and professional success matter deeply to peoples lives and they must believe in the possibility of improvement.Self-starter In recruiting, no-ones going to stand over your shoulder or hold your hand while you make phone c alls. Only the independent will prosper. Its up to you to research the right candidates, make the calls, set up appointments, push the interview, etc. If you have anxiety over talking to strangers or thinking on your feet, recruiting might not be the industry for you.Detective Love a good mystery? Recruiters need to love detective work. The issue in recruiting is that its really not like fitting together puzzle pieces. You dont know exactly what you are looking for. You have to be able to take a rough idea and then hunt it down recruiters get the position, and then identify the match when they see it. Its an odd skill set, really you have to be comfortable with using inexact and changing clues to find people, that are also unpredictable and unreliable. You have to be comfortable with this imprecision, but more importantly, enjoy the hunt for something as elusive and changing as human talent.Strong Communicator Are you persuasive? Do you know how to say the right thing at the right time? Better yet do you know how to listen? Recruiting isnt about finding any old candidate of the street and getting them to sign on the dotted line, its about finding the right candidate for the right job. Your decision making process will be largely guided by the questions you ask and the answers you receive.Driven by results Sales makes the world go round or at least it needs to make your would go round if you want to stay motivated. If you get excited about the quality and quantity of your work, then recruiting might be a great career choice for you. While you can certainly teach someone to make sales or drive customer behavior, you cant force them to love it thats a passion you need to have inside of you. Recruitment, whether corporate or agency, is large self-directed you will get out of recruiting only what you put into it.Free-Wheelin It is always said that over analysis has killed many a placement. Recruiters have to be able to get out of their own way to make connecti ons. Could you look at a resume and in twenty seconds be comfortable with whether or not that person might be a right fit? Recruiters are essentially brokers this means finding the right fit and bringing two parties together.Highly analytical people tend not to do well in recruiting, as there is a high volume of input (screening resumes) and output (talking to managers, setting up interviews.) If you spend a lot of time over-thinking everything, this high input/output scenario is a difficult proposition. While you can train a good recruiter to become a great recruiter, the initial building blocks need to be there for that person to cut it in recruiting for the long term. Without passion and an ambitious attitude, most people get frustrated with the job and give up. Theres a reason the industry has such a high turnover rate fresh recruiters just dont last. It takes a special and unique kind of person to succeed in recruiting. If youre in recruiting and love your job, be thankful that you found the profession or that the profession found you. If youre thinking about getting into recruiting, do some soul searching before you dive in recruiting isnt for everybody, but for some people, its the only field that makes sense.

Selling Advertising for Your Podcast
Selling Advertising for Your PodcastSelling Advertising for Your PodcastBlogs swept the internet in popularity but it took a while for advertisers to take notice. However, podcasting has gained instant attention with the ad world and the reach they have is attracting everyone from small business advertisers to companies around the globe. Its a multi-million dollar industry - so, how can you tap into it? Selling the Space Selling advertising on your podcast is much like selling advertising space on a website. Unlike selling a banner on a per-click basis, though, a simple podcast ad can be inserted into your podcast and left there. Selling your podcasting ad space can be quite appealing since podcasts are generally free. This revenue can help you cover the cost of producing your podcast and create better content so you can gain even more listeners. Commercial Placement Keep commercials limited and control their placement carefully. Some podcasters insert a commercial at the be ginning of the podcast, some have a commercial in the middle and some have one at the end. Some even use the beginning, middle and end spaces to insert commercials.Be aya youre not bombarding the listener with commercial after commercial, though. Many podcasting experts warn against putting an ad at the beginning of your podcast. They say a commercial right off the top detracts from the listeners excitement of hearing your podcast. Instead of listening to your podcast right away, they have to hear a commercial first. Commercial Length Most podcast listeners are fine with a 15-second commercial in the podcast.??Two minutes is way too long, and even 60 seconds is a stretch. By keeping the commercial length short and limiting the placement, you can continue to serve your listeners first. You dont want to turn your podcast into a smattering of commercials that detracts from the hard work you put into your podcast and doesnt give your listeners anything valuable. Whos Listening? Auto advertisers are really jumping on the podcast advertising bandwagon. Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Volvo and more are testing the podcasting waters.A majority of podcasts arent going to be able to gain these kinds of advertisers. What you can do instead is target those who may listen to your podcast. By evaluating the type of podcast youre releasing, youre able to know who your potential advertisers are at the same time. Youll also want to know how many listeners your podcast has. Advertisers will want to know how many people their ad could potentially reach before buying the space. Podcasting Ad Rates The value of a podcast is hard for both podcasters and advertisers to gage this early in the game. Audibles WordCast is providing a service that allows podcasters to see how many people are downloading your podcast to help you establish an advertising rate card. The service charges the podcaster up to five and a half cents per podcast download. The info WordCast gathers helps the pod caster determine exactly who the listeners are and what they are downloading. Sponsorships Over Advertising An alternative to podcast advertising is to find a sponsor for your podcast. Georgia-Pacific entered into a six-figure verstndigung im strafverfahren with a parenting podcast called Mommycast. A 15-year-old girl in Texas has sponsors for her EmoGirlTalk podcast that include an acne treatment product called Natures Cure and the domain name provider GoDaddy.com. Sponsorships generally have the podcaster mentioning the sponsor within the podcast. Dont underestimate the value of a sponsor. Many podcasters have found more success by getting a solid sponsor than selling podcast advertising space on a regular basis. No matter how you pursue advertising for your podcast, just make sure your content doesnt suffer. Otherwise, you wont gain any new listeners and youll lose the following you had, ultimately losing your advertisers in the process.

Pitch Your Way Over $100k
Pitch Your Way Over $100kPitch Your Way Over $100kTips to help you prepare your 15-second networking pitch. So, what do you do? Its often the first question youre asked when networking, and its certainly not easy to answer when youre looking for a new job. Even if youre currently employed, it can be difficult to explain what you do for a living. If youre uncomfortable pitching yourself and your skills, youre not alone. Here are some tips to help you pitch your way into a new position.Skip the kitchen-sink pitchMany job seekers make the mistake of telling their entire life histories. Theyll tell you theyre experts in everything from advertising to marketing to financial planning, and they could even answer phones or wait tables if they had to.The trouble with this approach is that no one wants to hire a generalist. They want to hire an expert who can fill the specific position they have open. So focus on your expertise and the skills needed for the job that you really want.Focus your en ergyWhen looking for a job, you may face the paradox of choice Many great ones out there might be good for you. So, like many job seekers, you might float from one great-sounding job description to the next. But the key is to figure out the one thing you absolutely need in your next position and build that into your pitch.Holly, a client I recently worked with, welches certain of two things that she wanted to move back to Japan and needed a high-level, challenging position to support this move. So, she told everyone she met, I am going to Japan - yes, phrased in the present tense. Thus, every conversation she had was focused on Japan, and she was easily able to mention how her excellent interpersonal skills would be the perfect fit for a company in Japan. (She landed a job as a fundraiser for a major university with a campus in Japan.)Sam, on the other hand, had already found his perfect job posted online, although the company anthroponym wasnt listed. After a little industry resea rch, Sam discovered the hiring company, and most importantly he found out his former Sunday school teacher was employed there. Sam landed the job by telling his teacher why hed be a great candidate for the specific position. She agreed and immediately made an introduction for him. He was invited to come in for an interview the next day and joined the company as its CFO within 30 days of seeing the ad posted online. You never know when an opportunity is going to present itself in the virtual or real world, so be sure you have your pitch ready.Answer the top four questionsBy answering these four questions, youll be able to create an elevator pitch you can deliver in just 15 seconds. After all, every second counts when you see that perfect job advertised online or you hear about it at a networking event.Remember, pitching yourself is all about putting your best foot forward and letting your audience know why you make a remarkable candidate.Who are you?Introduce yourself using your first and last names. This simple step is the most important. When youre asked, So, what do you do? at a networking event, you want to be sure the listener remembers your nameWhat do you do?Be as specific as possible. Dont try to be too clever in your answer because it can be confusing. Instead, keep your explanation simple, but cover all the necessary details. If people dont know or cant explain exactly what you do, they can never refer job leads to you or recommend you to others. For example, instead of saying that youre a photographer, you could say, Im a professional photographer with 20 years of experience who specializes in high-end fashion. What makes you the best at what you do?Dont squander that chance to make a first impression. Stand out in a positive way. Let your audience know what makes you better than all the other candidates out there. To continue with our photographer example, you could say something like, My clients include Versace and Kenneth Cole (assuming, of course, thats true).Whats your call to action? What is your ideal next step after this meeting? Most job seekers have a very vague call to action. They end their conversation with something like, Let me know if you hear of anything. Thats not so compelling. Youre much better off saying something like, Id like to invite you out to lunch to learn mora about how you got into this industry. Though it might sound a little clich, the lets do lunch concept still works.Test-drive your pitchYou might not love this idea, but you need to take your new 15-second pitch out for a test drive. Practice makes perfect. So go to as many networking events as you can. I like speed networking events offered in many cities because theyre fast-paced and you meet a lot of different people. They also force you to be very concise about who you are and what you do. When youre delivering your pitch to people, take note of what seems to get people excited, but also where they get confused. These are the areas that youll need to refine until they are perfect.
